The Proactive Approach to Men’s Hair Health

More men are treating hair loss proactively, with modern regrowth solutions making treatment easier to access.

For many men, hair loss begins earlier and hits harder than expected. Studies suggest that roughly half of men will experience noticeable hair loss by age 50, with some seeing thinning hair as early as their twenties.1 Further, between 62 and 75 percent of men report feeling emotional distress and embarrassment related to hair loss.2 Yet despite how common it is, hair loss is still often treated as a purely cosmetic issue rather than something that can meaningfully affect confidence, self-image, and overall well-being.

That perception is beginning to change. As conversations around men’s health become more open, more Canadians are viewing hair loss through the lens of proactive care — similar to skincare, fitness, or preventive wellness. Early action, education, and consistency are increasingly being recognized as important parts of maintaining hair health over time.

Understanding the cause

Male pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia, remains the most common cause of hair thinning in men and is typically linked to genetics. However, stress, hormonal changes, lifestyle factors, certain medical conditions, and even grooming habits can also contribute to hair shedding or thinning.

Modern treatment options

One of the most widely used ingredients in hair regrowth treatments is minoxidil, a clinically established topical treatment for hereditary hair loss, now available in more user-friendly formulations. With consistent use over several weeks, it may help support regrowth and maintain existing hair, making early intervention especially important for those beginning to notice thinning.

Simplifying daily treatment

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Canada recently expanded its over-the-counter consumer health portfolio with the launch of Men’s GLN-Minoxidil 5% Topical Aerosol Foam, designed to support hair regrowth in men experiencing hereditary hair loss, available on Amazon.ca and at pharmacies near you. The fast-drying foam format offers a convenient, no-drip alternative to traditional liquid applications, helping simplify daily use and encourage treatment consistency. Please note that this product may not be right for everyone. When using, always read and follow the product label, including the directions for use.

The company says the product was developed with accessibility and affordability in mind — two factors that can influence whether consumers stay consistent with treatment. Early traction in Canada’s ecommerce market also reflects growing consumer demand for proactive, self-directed hair loss solutions.

Hair loss may be common, but ignoring it doesn’t have to be. With growing awareness and more accessible treatment options available today, more men are taking a proactive approach earlier — not just to their hair, but to their overall self-confidence and well-being.
